A Soundtrack to the World| Dan Miller
Music helps bring people together across cultures, religions, and even languages. It is the key to creativity and is the language of the universe. You don’t have to understand the lyrics to enjoy a song, harmonize with the melody, or feel the emotions behind it. For Dan, music has always been a part of his life, ever since he picked up his first guitar at the age of 13, saying, “ever since then, it is like I always have a song in my head – there is just a soundtrack to the world that has always been in my head.”
A life-long experiential educator, leadership coach, and a musician, Dan has spent his life helping people build character, building skills that make human interaction easier and more positive. Prior to starting his own leadership consulting business, Dan was a wilderness instructor, bringing people closer to nature and our living environment:
“Leadership skills are also human skills. To be an excellent leader you have to really know yourself and you have to recognize your strengths and weaknesses and that is really helpful whether you are leading an organization or just trying to figure out your career path. That is something I hear over and over again. People tell me that this stuff is really helpful at work but I have been using it with my wife or my kids. So I really appreciate that side of it as well.”
While music has always been a part of his life, whether performing live, writing songs for friends and family, or writing songs for charity auctions from the perspective of a woman who had been married to her husband for 30 years and wanted to express how grateful she was, it is only recently that Dan started experimenting mixing music with his coaching:
“What is really cool is that recently I have started to bring the musical side to the equation. There is a lot of powerful metaphor in music and musical expression that overlap with leadership and team dynamics; you think about every note can sound nice by themselves but when you put certain notes together and you create a beautiful harmony that couldn’t possibly exist without all three of them. And then you can add a few notes on top of that to add this sort of jazzy or bluesy qualities and you know that relates a lot to what it means to build a solid team.”
After connecting with Wendy White (founder of Let’s Choose Love), Dan agreed to use his musical talents and write a song that embodies the Let’s Choose Love mission and vision to raise awareness and support the cause.
The Let’s Choose Love song is an invitation for us to turn our passion and love into action in support of the people in our communities. Every one of us has a gift that we can share with the world and make it a little bit brighter for those around us. So join us!
