A Sanctuary For All | Rebecca Folsom

It all started one evening at Isis Music Hall in Asheville, NC. when Rebecca Folsom was performing for an enthralled crowd. I happened to be in the audience that night, and when Rebecca began sharing her  passion for leveraging her talents to lift up the stories and voices of the under-voiced, I knew her path was aligned to Let’s Choose Love. I wanted to support her efforts as she shares the stories of the homeless, imprisoned, addicted, and immigrant,  in a way that informs and moves people to greater levels of compassion, love and action.

When she returned to her home in Boulder, CO we met via zoom the following week and she shared her give back dreams with me. I believe they are best summed up in the following lines from her song, Sanctuary.

Sanctuary

One voice, rising in the darkness.

One voice, no matter how small.

One voice each of us together,

becomes the one voice … of us all.

One voice, one world, one choice.

Love, show us how.

We can make a Sanctuary.

A safe refuge, a higher ground.

One people living in one world.

Each act of love, show us how.

One world, we are brothers and sisters.

One world, it’s really rather small

One world, ours to care for.

One world together, a Sanctuary for all.

With each song, Rebecca leveraged her own childhood struggles, and connected with others within those communities to really understand their voice and what messages need to be lifted and shared with the world.

Each song on the album examines different human conditions. For the song “Brothers” she went into the prison and worked with the men to create the song. She not only listened to their stories, but included their voices in the video and album. The entire Sanctuary project has been captured in film and will culminate in a documentary later this year.

The Sanctuary CD Release party is scheduled for February 25th in Boulder, CO. at the world famous e-Town Theater. This will launch a two year tour across the U.S where Rebecca will not only perform, but will partner with other non-profits in the area. The goal is to connect inspired audiences to opportunities to act. Rebecca’s dream is to leverage her voice and rising fame for powerful good in the world. I have no doubt that you will see her name and the Sanctuary project up for a Grammy next year. Let’s dream BIG!

Special thanks to Continuum Consulting Services for donating $5,000 for Rebecca’s Let’s Choose Love grant. The money will be used to fund the CD Release Launch Party on February 25th. Please join us and extend your love in the world!
